Jay Guffey accepts a check for $4,000 from members of ETHIC.
With a desire to help other kids who are going through a scary diagnosis, a local teen organization has raised $4,000 for the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center at Mercy Kids.
Members of ETHIC, which stands for Every Teen Helps Inspire Change, made high-quality beaded bracelets for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month in September. They sold the bracelets and special shoelaces in Mercy gift shops and to friends and family. Because the color for Pediatric Cancer Awareness is gold, the teens made gold-colored bracelets and dubbed the fundraiser, “GoGold.”
Today, the teens presented the check for $4,000 to Mercy Kids.
This is the third ETHIC fundraiser that has benefited Mercy Kids. The teens first teamed up with local artist Gavyn Sky and pediatric cancer patients to create paintings, which were then sold to raise funds for the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center. The second raised funds for an ICEE machine that provides a special treat to cancer patients, who can often have sore mouths or throats from their medication. Other pediatric patients have also been able to take advantage of its placement in the Kids Café inside Mercy Kids.
