Student athletes in Aurora and Cassville will be ready to compete even before school starts this fall. Mercy will once again be offering free, convenient physicals in the coming weeks.

AURORA

On July 22, Mercy Hospital Aurora and the Missouri State University (MSU) Physician Assistant Program will provide the free service to Aurora students from grades 3 to 12, including Mighty Mites, junior high and high school athletes. Students should be joined by parents or guardians at the following location:

  • Aurora High School gym
305 W. Prospect Street, in Aurora, Mo.
    8:30 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 22

“These are good for a year, so regardless of what sport your athlete will playing in the months ahead, we’ve got them covered,” said Dr. Jeffery Diehl, one of several Mercy physicians who plan to be on site for the physicals. “Usually the exams run about $20-30, so we’re happy to put that money back in our parents’ pockets before back-to-school season strikes.”

Mercy’s team effort with MSU, now in its third year, will also be a learning opportunity. The university will bring dozens of physician assistant students to perform the physicals for hands-on experience. Mercy physicians will offer their expertise to finalize all physicals.

MOUNTAIN VIEW & SUMMERSVILLE

On August 2, parents or guardians are encouraged to bring student athletes of any age to one of the following Mercy clinic locations:

Schools in Mountain View and Summersville will provide students with the necessary forms prior to the physicals. Athletics directors and coaches from each district also plan to attend. For additional information about the free physicals, contact Carabeth Womack at Carabeth.Womackatmercy.net.

CASSVILLE

Starting the following week, free physicals will be offered for Mighty Mites football players –  who are joined by their parents or guardians – at the following location:

“These Mighty Mites physicals aren’t just free again, they’re also convenient,” said Dr. Joe Himes, a Mercy emergency room physicians who also plans to be on site. “We’re honored to roll up our sleeves to keep our young athletes in their best shape, year after year.”

In 2015, Mercy provided free physicals to more than 200 student athletes across Aurora and Cassville communities. For additional information, contact Tammie Cantu at Tammie.Cantuatmercy.net.
