Courses run March 30-April 23
Nearly 30 million people in the United States have diabetes. As that number climbs, so does the importance of knowing how to manage the chronic disease.
That’s why Mercy hospitals in Aurora and Cassville will offer weekly, two-hour educational support groups focusing on diabetes management this spring. The free, interactive courses will run from March 30 to April 23 and are available multiple times a week to accommodate busy schedules.
“If you’re at risk of having diabetes, want to learn more about managing diabetes or you’re just committed to making healthy lifestyle choices, we encourage you to sign up,” said Judy Carver, licensed dietitian and certified diabetes educator. There will be taste testing of healthy, diabetic-friendly recipes each week. “We’ll prepare three different recipes that require minimal cooking supplies, cooking skills and ingredients – and we’ll even take tours of local grocery stores.”
Starting March 30, courses will be offered at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Mondays, as well as noon and 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Mercy Hospital Aurora, located at 500 S. Porter Avenue, will hold courses in its private dining room; Mercy Hospital Cassville plans to offer its courses in the Ash House, located behind the hospital at 94 Main Street.
Registration is required and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The program will also include a pre-assessment via phone call prior to the classes and a post-assessment following the completion of classes.
