Dr. Alan Scarrow named president of
Mercy Springfield Communities
Mercy has named Alan Scarrow, M.D., J.D., as president of Mercy Springfield Communities. This role includes leadership for all of Mercy’s hospital and clinic services in Springfield and surrounding Missouri communities including Lebanon, Rolla, Mountain View, Aurora and Cassville, as well as Berryville, Arkansas.
“We’ve been working since last spring to restructure our Springfield leadership team into one group and combine their responsibilities to include both hospital and clinic operations,” Dr. Scarrow explained. ”We felt our integrated model had evolved to the point where we needed to functionally combine the two in order to become an even better health system. This leaner structure has made us more nimble and also reflects changes we’re seeing throughout our industry.”
Dr. Scarrow earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Nebraska, medical and law degrees from Case Western Reserve University, and completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh including a one-year fellowship in public policy. He started his career at Mercy in 2003. Dr. Scarrow has served in several leadership roles in the organization including chairman of Neurosurgery, president of Mercy Clinic Virtual Care and president of Mercy Clinic Springfield Communities. He continues as a practicing neurosurgeon and serves as secretary for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
Jon Swope has been serving as interim president of Mercy Hospital Springfield since the departure last spring of Dr. Robert Steele. Swope will now return full time to his role as president of Mercy’s Central Communities, which includes Southwest Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas.
“Alan has demonstrated professionalism, leadership and vision, as well as a great dedication to our mission,” Swope said. “We know he will move Mercy forward as we work to meet the needs of the communities we serve.”
